Ο επίδοξος βασιλιάς του search είναι εδώ. Για την ώρα δεν είναι με τίποτα ο Google Killer που πολύς κόσμος του προσάπτει αλλά είναι βέβαιο ότι με τον καιρό θα αποκτήσει μεγάλο μερίδιο της αγοράς. Ο Wolfram Aplha δεν είναι άλλη μια παραδοσιακή μηχανή αναζήτησης και αυτός ίσως να είναι ο λόγος της επερχόμενης επιτυχίας του.
Οι ιδρυτές του το ονομάζουν computational knowledge engine αντί για search engine. Σε απλά ελληνικά ενώ η Google αποσκοπεί να οργανώσει όλες τι πληροφορίες του κόσμου με τον πιο αποτελεσματικό τρόπο o Wolfram απλώς υπολογίζει ότι είναι εφικτό να υπολογιστεί.
Παράδειγμα: Ας πούμε ότι θέλουμε να βρούμε την απόσταση της γής από τον ήλιο. Τυπικά θα πηγαίναμε google κάνοντας αναζήτηση και αφού κοιτούσαμε τα πρώτα 5 sites θα διασταυρώναμε μια απάντηση. Η ομορφιά του Wolfram είναι ότι στην αναζήτηση της ερώτησης θα μας έδινε απευθείας την απάντηση.
Σημαντική διαφορά του Wolfram με τη Google είναι οι βάσεις δεδομένων που χρησιμοποιεί. Το σύστημα είναι εξοπλισμένο με άπειρες μαθηματικές εξισώσεις αλλά και 10 terabytes of data με πήγες που θεωρούνται αξιόπιστες, (journals, encyclopedias κλπ).Φυσικά αυτά είναι απλώς η αρχή, όσο περνάει ο καιρό θα προστίθενται διαρκώς νέες πληροφορίες. Αυτό που δεν συμπεριλαμβάνεται στις databases είναι user content websites.
Από πλευράς εσόδων είναι ακόμα νωρίς να δούμε την εξέλιξη. Το μόνο σίγουρο είναι ότι το παιχνίδι της Google με Search Advertising δύσκολα θα επηρεαστεί μιας και ο Wolfram δεν θα απαντήσει ποτέ σε ερωτησεις τύπου "ποιά είναι η καλύτερη κάμερα" ενώ η Google θα έχει ως αποτέλεσμα αναζήτησης τη λίστα με reviews sites και δίπλα φυσικά θα υπάρχουν τα sponsored links των διαφημιστών.
Το όλο προτζεκτ είναι το "παιδί" του Steven Wolfram (εξ ου και το όνομα) ο οποίος εδώ και χρόνια ονειρευότανε να βρει ένα τρόπο να δημιουργήσει αυτό το "έξυπνο" κατασκεύασμα το οποίο σύμφωνα με τα λόγια του will make all the world's knowledge computable.
Μιας και πρόκειται για Artificial Intelligence ήδη κυκλοφορούν σε blogs και reviews διάφορα αστεία searches στον Wolfram. So just for a laugh:
